Job summary

Volunteers of America Western Washington seeks an Online Crisis Counselor to respond to 988 chats and texts, delivering empathetic crisis support using intervention techniques. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health field, English fluency, and a 35 WPM typing test.

You will conduct safety assessments, coordinate with the crisis team, and maintain HIPAA compliance. This full-time, remote position includes training, supervision, and opportunities to mentor newer counselors

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a social science/behavioral health or related field.
• Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration required within 30 days of employment.
• Typing test with a score of 35 WPM or higher.
• Fluent in English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming chats and texts, providing crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
• Conduct safety assessments and determine risk.
• Manage client interactions to ensure efficient and appropriate support.
• Initiate police intervention if Visitor is at immediate risk of harm.
• Adhere to HIPAA confidentiality and mandated reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with the online crisis counselor team and Shift Leads on complex cases.
• Use Microsoft Teams to engage with remote staff and 988 Crisis Shift Leads.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings to improve clinical skills.
• Mentor and coach new staff; promote integrity and accountability.
