Job summary

The Yorktown Central School District is seeking a Teacher Aide to support certified teachers in daily classroom activities. This role involves assisting with student tasks, keeping records, distributing materials, and supervising students under supervision from a teacher or administrator.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with children required.
• Completion of required State Workshops on Child Abuse, School Safety and Dignity for All Students preferred.
• Approval by the Westchester Department of Civil Services required.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance in direct support of a teacher in tasks such as checking homework or examination papers, averaging grades, and preparing materials.
• Provides physical aid to the teacher and helps with setting up materials, classroom displays, and AV equipment.
• Assists in proctoring and other tasks related to examinations.
• May work one-on-one with students with disabilities, assisting with note-taking and mobility, and helping with personal care issues.
• Maintains orderly classroom environment in the absence of the teacher.
