Job summary

Yorktown Central School District is seeking a Substitute Teacher Aide/Assistant to support classrooms under the supervision of a Certified Teacher.

The role involves setting up materials, assisting students, supervising class, and performing routine clerical tasks, with emphasis on safety and inclusive learning.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, experience with children, and NYSED Level I Teaching Assistant certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with children.
• NYSED Level I Teaching Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up work areas, displays, and materials; operate audio-visual equipment and supplies as directed.
• Provide assistance to individual and small groups to reinforce instruction.
• Supervise and maintain student behavior according to school guidelines; support students during activities and transitions.
• Perform routine clerical duties (copying, filing, ordering materials) to support classroom activities.
• Assist in classroom preparation (folders, charts, schedules, posters, bulletin boards) under teacher direction.
• Supervise class when teacher is out of room; assist students with safety and movement around the building.
• Assist with personal hygiene activities as needed and help move students to different areas (cafeteria, nurse, restrooms).
• Ensure a clean and orderly environment; support learning with positive verbal/non-verbal cues.
