Job summary

Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough, ME is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our Oncology team. In this Rarebreed practice, you will assist with patient care during chemotherapy, radiology, office visits and diagnostics, while supporting families and the hospital team.

Requirements include 2 years in a veterinary hospital, Maine Veterinary Technician License or the ability to obtain one, excellent communication and clinical skills, and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
• Current Maine Veterinary Technician License or the ability to obtain one.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong clinical skills, including phlebotomy experience.
• Detail-oriented and well organized.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Self-motivated and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care during chemotherapy, radiology, office visits and diagnostics.
• Monitor patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments, including verifying medication doses, placing and maintaining catheters and recording all treatments.
• Perform routine and advanced treatments and procedures, including injections, oral medications, blood draws, basic pharmacology and bandaging.
• Provide comfort, love, and a skilled hand to patients.
• Keep patient families updated with medical and financial status.
• Support the hospital team to provide exceptional care for pets and their owners.
