Job summary

Trinity Health in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking an Oncology Triage Nurse to support Radiation and Medical Oncology through telephone and MyChart triage, responding to calls, symptoms, and questions with timely guidance and care coordination.

You will collaborate with physicians, APPs, nurses, and the care team to assess needs, prioritize urgent cases, and escalate when needed, promoting patient safety and a seamless oncology journey.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school and program.
  • ADN required; BSN preferred.
  • Michigan RN license.
  • One year of RN experience; Oncology experience preferred.
  • OCN certification preferred or plan to obtain within designated timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patient calls and electronic inquiries via MyChart.
  • Assess patient needs and prioritize based on clinical urgency.
  • Coordinate care and escalate to providers as needed.
  • Collaborate with Radiation and Medical Oncology teams.

Employment Type:Full time Shift:Day ShiftDescription:The Oncology Triage Nurse serves as a key clinical resource supporting both Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology practices through telephone and electronic (MyChart/in-basket) triage. This role is responsible for responding to patient calls, symptom concerns, treatment-related questions, and electronic inquiries in a timely, efficient, and compassionate manner, ensuring patients receive appropriate guidance and care coordination throughout their oncology journey.
Working closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members, the Oncology Triage Nurse assesses patient needs, prioritizes concerns based on clinical urgency, and facilitates appropriate interventions. Utilizing clinical expertise, critical thinking, and a thorough understanding of provider practice patterns, this clinician independently manages routine patient care needs within established protocols while identifying situations that require provider consultation or escalation. The role is instrumental in promoting patient safety, enhancing the patient experience, and ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care across Radiation and Medical Oncology services.

Position Summary:

Registered Nurse, RN works in a collaborative environment to deliver excellent patient care as part of an interdisciplinary team providing evidenced based medicine and individualized patient care. A Registered Nurse, RN is expected to facilitate all aspects of the patient visit experience.

What you will need:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school and program.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
  • In Grand Rapids, nurses hired with an ADN must enroll in a BSN program within six months of hire and complete the degree within four years of hire.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
  • One year of RN experience required. New graduates must apply through the RN Residency Program, which has cohorts beginning in February, July, and October.
  • Oncology nursing experience preferred.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred, or willingness to obtain certification within a designated timeframe after hire. (Optional, if applicable to the role.)
