Job summary

Brown University Health at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI seeks a Pharmacy Technician Group Leader for Oncology and Sterile Compounding. Oversees technicians and interns; ensures clean room and sterile compounding quality under pharmacist supervision; drives workflow improvements and operational changes.

You will train and orient staff, manage training, verify credentialing, and ensure adherence to SOPs and regulatory requirements, supporting medication safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Completion of one to two years of college preferred.
• Holds and maintains current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician II licensure and National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).
• Two to three years of related work experience as a pharmacy technician or technician specialist, with at least 1 year in oncology/sterile compounding/investigational drugs.
• Must obtain and maintain oncology/sterile compounding credentialing within 2 months of hire.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Ensures cleanliness of clean room environment and equipment maintenance.
• Sterile compounding performed under pharmacist supervision in compliance with USP <797> and <800> etc.
• Provides technical support to streamline operations and maximize efficiency at assigned clean room site.
• Recommends and implements operational changes in collaboration with the pharmacy technician supervisor.
• Maintains adequate drug inventory and proper storage per policies and mandates.
• Supports pharmacist on duty ensuring drug inventory security.
• Involves recruitment, retention, competency assessment, and annual performance of technicians.
• Orients and coordinates work of technicians on the Oncology and Sterile Compounding team.
• Develops tools and in-service training to improve competency during orientation.
• Ensures all SOPs are understood and followed; provides feedback for teamwork and satisfaction.
