Job summary

Texas Oncology is seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to join the Plano West team on a full-time basis. The role involves counseling patients and families, coordinating with an interdisciplinary team, and supporting survivorship and psychosocial needs within a busy oncology clinic.

Ideal candidates will hold an MSW (CSWE-accredited) and a Texas LCSW license, with 3–5 years of healthcare/social work experience, preferably in oncology/palliative care. Monday–Friday, no weekends.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work from CSWE-accredited program.
  • Licensed to practice as a Texas LCSW.
  • 3–5 years of clinical social work experience in healthcare; oncology/palliative care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides therapeutic counseling to patients, families, and caregivers; documents sessions and billing when applicable.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the psychosocial impact of cancer across the care continuum and practical implications.
  • Offers emotional support and crisis assessment/interventions to patients and families.
  • Collaborates with the medical team to address psychosocial needs and coordinates care.
  • Participates in value-based care initiatives and documents advance care planning discussions.
  • Supports survivorship transitions and links patients to community resources.
  • Assesses psychosocial needs, guiding patients to appropriate services and groups.
  • Develops and coordinates patient support groups with local agencies and providers.
  • Educates clinic staff on the role of clinical social work and psychosocial determinants of health.
  • Shares information about community resources and maintains relationships with external organizations.
  • Advocates for patients/families and facilitates communication with the medical team.
  • Documents all interventions accurately in the EMR and handles billing documentation as needed.
  • Gives presentations to groups to improve understanding of psycho-social cancer care.
  • Engages in quality improvement activities and supervises MSW students if applicable.
  • May provide clinical supervision to MSWs and oversee interns.
  • Applies knowledge of age-specific differences in patient care.
