Job summary

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System Cancer Registry is seeking an experienced Oncology Data Specialist to oversee data quality control and lead QC audits within the registry.

The role includes providing ongoing education for registry staff, mentoring non-certified Oncology Data Specialists toward certification readiness, and ensuring accurate cancer data in line with CoC standards.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) in a CoC-accredited hospital or central registry.
• Bachelor's degree in health information management or related field.
• Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C) certification.

Job Summary

Oversees the data quality control process in the cancer registry database and conducts Quality Control audits in accordance with industry standards. Provides continuing education for the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System Cancer Registry staff to address new cancer data standards and rectify gaps in knowledge leading to data quality issues. Mentors and trains non-certified Oncology Data Specialists for certification readiness.

Required Qualifications

• - Require five (5) years of experience as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) in a CoC-accredited hospital or central registry setting, with at least one year of current quality control experience.
• - Require a bachelor's degree in health information management or related field of study.
• - Require Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• - Prefer experience working in a Florida-based Cancer Registry working in a Commission on Cancer- (Coc-) accredited program.
• - Prefer thorough knowledge of Cancer Registry data and coding rules.
• Prefer proficiency in MS Office Suite products, industry-related cancer registry software systems, and EMR applications.
• - Prefer experience with data submissions to the Florida Cancer Data System and the National Cancer Database, as well as experience creating, running, and analyzing ad-hoc reports in a Cancer Registry Database.
