Job description

Build an oncology pharmacy operation, don't inherit one.

Riceland Cancer Center is opening a new medical oncology and infusion program in Beaumont, and we're hiring our first oncology pharmacist.

This person won't step into an existing workflow — they'll design it. Compounding operations, order verification standards, regimen and order set build in the EMR, formulary, inventory, and safety protocols all get established by whoever takes this role. If you've wanted ownership of a program rather than a shift, this is that seat.

You'll work directly with our medical oncologist, oncology nurse practitioner, and infusion nursing team in a small, focused outpatient center where your clinical judgment carries real weight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Pharmacy Services
  • Review and verify chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hematology, and supportive care medication orders for clinical accuracy and protocol compliance.
  • Evaluate patient-specific factors including diagnosis, body surface area (BSA), laboratory values, renal and hepatic function, allergies, performance status, and potential drug interactions.
  • Ensure treatment plans align with current NCCN guidelines, institutional protocols, and evidence-based practice.
  • Recommend dose modifications and supportive care interventions based on patient-specific clinical needs.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness, adverse drug reactions, toxicities, and treatment outcomes throughout the patient’s course of therapy.
Infusion Pharmacy Operations & Medication Safety
  • Perform and oversee the sterile compounding and dispensing of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, targeted therapies, and supportive IV medications.
  • Ensure compliance with USP <797>, USP <800>, OSHA, Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations, and all applicable medication safety standards.
  • Maintain safe handling, storage, preparation, labeling, transportation, and disposal of hazardous medications.
  • Monitor medication inventory, expiration dates, storage conditions, and drug shortages to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Patient Education & Collaborative Care
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment regimens, expected side effects, oral chemotherapy administration, supportive medications, and adherence strategies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Provide evidence-based drug information and therapeutic recommendations to healthcare providers.
  • Assist in the management of infusion-related reactions and other medication-related emergencies.
Quality Improvement & Clinical Support
  • Participate in medication safety initiatives, quality improvement projects, and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain standardized oncology treatment plans, order sets, and dosing tools within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Support compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate medication documentation and pharmaceutical interventions.
  • Participate in continuing education and remain current with advances in oncology pharmacotherapy.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy.
  • Active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the State of Texas (or eligibility to obtain prior to employment).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of pharmacist experience in oncology, infusion services, or an acute care clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, supportive oncology care, and hazardous drug handling.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and pharmacy information systems.
Preferred
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP).
  • Previous outpatient oncology or infusion center experience.
