Job Description

The Oncology Infusion Pharmacist serves as the institutional authority and clinical leader in oncology infusion pharmacy practice. This position carries significant responsibility for patient safety, clinical outcomes, and the advancement of oncology pharmacy services. Key responsibilities include:

Clinical Leadership & Expertise:
  • Direct and oversee all pharmacy-related activities within oncology infusion services, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of clinical practice and patient safety protocols
  • Establish and enforce evidence-based clinical standards, policies, and procedures for oncology infusion therapy
  • Serve as the primary clinical resource and consultant for complex oncology infusion cases, providing expert guidance to pharmacy staff, nursing personnel, and clinical teams
  • Maintain current knowledge of oncology therapeutics, infusion protocols, and emerging treatment modalities through continuous professional development
System Development & Implementation:
  • Design and implement new systems, workflows, and services to enhance the quality and efficiency of oncology infusion pharmacy operations
  • Identify gaps in current practice and lead initiatives to resolve clinical and operational challenges
Staff Development & Education:
  • Train, mentor, and establish competency standards for pharmacy staff and students at undergraduate and graduate levels, fostering excellence in oncology infusion practice
Research & Knowledge Contribution:
  • Conduct applied research and quality improvement initiatives to advance patient care and contribute to the professional body of knowledge through publications and presentations
Professional Accountability:
  • Work independently with minimal direct supervision, exercising sound clinical judgment and maintaining comprehensive documentation in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy and must complete a residency training program or have equivalent experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacist experience or the equivalent training and experience at another institution, preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to meet and exceed practice standards set for a Level II pharmacist. (Henry Ford Detroit Hospital Only).
  • Must be able to serve as an institutional authority in a given specialty practice area.
  • Must have demonstrable leadership abilities and exhibit teamwork when working with others.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable him/her to contribute effectively in the dissemination of information to all levels of health care personnel in the institution.
  • Should have a proven research/publication record.
  • Must be qualified to work with pharmacy students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Must have a previous work history of reliability, dependability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan. If eligible, licensure must be obtained within 30 days of hire; failure to obtain licensure will result in termination of the Pharmacy Specialist position.
