Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an Oncology Patient Coordinator to support the coordination of care for oncology patients. The role serves as the primary contact for new and existing referrals, performing registration and delivering patient-focused service in a fast-paced environment.

In collaboration with the oncology nurse navigator, you will work to maximize patient flow, communicate with service delivery areas, and ensure accurate documentation in hospital systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree and 1 year healthcare experience, or high school with 5 years in referral management or oncology navigation.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology; excellent communication.
• Ability to work autonomously and in teams; strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• Experience with hospital information systems or word processing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the patient to better direct their own health care experience using screening and reinforcement of the treatment plan, educational programs, and linkage to health services and community resources.
• Serve as a patient liaison to assist patients and caregivers in scheduling within the complex healthcare system.
• Act as an advocate for an individual’s health care needs by identifying and communicating opportunities for care intervention that have been established by the RN Navigator or Coordinator, including identifying and addressing gaps in care.
