Job summary

UPMC Northwest is hiring a full-time Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician to join the 3 South Medical Oncology Team. This role involves rotating shifts, including every other weekend and holiday.

You will provide direct patient care, assist with daily activities, monitor vitals and participate in unit activities under RN supervision. Ideally, you will perform core nursing assistant tasks such as blood glucose checks, weights, I&O, and specimen collection, with opportunities to expand

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
• Assists with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.
• Reports changes in patient status to the RN.
• Performs nursing assistant tasks such as blood glucose, weights, vitals, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care.
• Performs additional tasks such as phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, IV catheter removal.
• Ensures equipment malfunctions are reported and communicates with other departments.
• Maintains professional relationships and supports universal unit activities.
• Provides instruction to patients and families under RN direction and may manage restraints as allowed.
• Communicates learning needs and seeks assistance for prioritizing activities.
• Cares for patients and staff by promoting safety and adhering to policies.
• Documents in the medical record and completes clerical tasks as needed.
• Meets standard competencies including ADLs, point of care testing, vital signs, telemetry monitoring, and specimen collections.
