Job summary

Xtensys in Ithaca, NY is seeking an experienced Hospital Coder II/Outpatient Coder to support oncology coding and related outpatient services. You will select Diagnoses and Procedures per ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines, manage claim edit queues, and advance your coding expertise through continuing education.

The ideal candidate has 1+ year hospital oncology coding, ICD-10-CM/CPT proficiency, and AHIMA or AAPC certification. Epic experience preferred. Travel none; sedentary work.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in Health Information Management or related field.
• AHIMA or AAPC Coding Certification required. Oncology credentials preferred.
• ICD-10-CM and CPT coding knowledge essential.
• Modifier assignment per payor requirements and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT for complex oncology services.
• Assist with accurate capture and reporting of data fields such as discharge disposition.
• Ensure codes are sequenced correctly per government, payer guidelines and coding rules.
• Maintain coding claim edit work queues for timely filing and revenue capture.
• Assign coding modifiers to ensure correct coding initiatives.
• Query medical staff for documentation gaps or ambiguities.
• Participate in coding audits and implement improvements from feedback.
• Understand Epic coding workflows, work queues, edits, and claim resolution.
• Meet coding accuracy, productivity, and denial reduction metrics.
• Support revenue cycle by ensuring timely filing and accurate coding.
• Other duties as needed to meet department needs.
