Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Suffolk is seeking a Medical Assistant to support our oncology/hematology team. This full-time, in-person role includes patient care, data collection, and scheduling responsibilities across multiple sites in the region.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, 1+ year experience in a multi-physician practice, and a CMA credential or equivalent certification. Travel between regional sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a multi-physician practice preferred.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of the profession and industry.
  • CMA strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel between regional sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment including exams and procedures.
  • Promote efficient patient flow and patient care during exams and procedures.
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
  • Record patient data prior to each physician visit (vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication changes).
  • Obtain necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • May schedule patient tests, procedures, hospital admissions, and follow-up appointments for test results.
  • Arrange pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
  • Perform other administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician.
