Job summary

Tennessee Oncology is a leading community-based cancer care network committed to high-quality patient care and clinical research. We are seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct safe, quality care under the direction of the MD/NP, with strong emphasis on accurate EMR documentation and patient coordination.

Responsibilities include patient screening, rooming, medication reviews, lab communications, and assisting with procedures in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of Medical Assistant Training Program or 6-months recent Medical Assistant experience in a healthcare setting required.
• Medical Assistant Certification preferred (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA).
• Current TO approved BLS provider card required within 3 months of hire.
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids.

Responsibilities

• Measures patient height/weight and vital signs.
• Screens for and documents pain, distress, clinical depression scores for each visit.
• Completes rooming process and escorts patient to exam room.
• Reviews/verifies medication lists and allergies; updates EMR at each encounter.
• Reviews health histories and updates EMR; enters data in EMR.
• Prepares patients for examination and treatment; ensures efficient workflow.
• Manages prescription refills per policy; calls in prescriptions as directed.
• Calls patients with lab results and instructions; assists with triage per protocol.
• Assists with procedures/exams as chaperone; port access, injections, vitals.
• Assists with nursing evaluations; prepares and administers medications as ordered.
• Performs basic clerical tasks; schedules appointments and referrals as directed.
• Stocks exam/treatment rooms; maintains supplies; reports needs.
