Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Suffolk is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support our oncology/hematology clinic team. This in-person role is full-time and based in Suffolk, with responsibilities spanning patient intake, exam support, and coordination of tests and procedures.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 1 year of experience in a multi-physician practice, and CMA credential preferred. Travel between regional sites may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a multi-physician practice.
• Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• CMA certification strongly preferred.
• Must be willing to travel between sites in the region.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment including exams and procedures.
• Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e. exams, and procedures.
• Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Obtains necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
• May schedule patient tests, procedures, and hospital admissions and may schedule follow-up appointments.
• Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
• Performs other administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants
