Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant for Medical Oncology in a full-time, dayshift role. The position supports physicians and nurses, facilitates patient flow, and performs clinical and administrative tasks in a fast-paced outpatient clinic.

The candidate must have a high school diploma, BLS certification, and either CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA/NRCMA certifications (to be completed within six months). 0–2 years of experience in ambulatory care preferred; EMR experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• 0 to 2 years’ experience in a relevant role.
• American Heart Association accredited BLS/CPR certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain one of CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA/NRCMA certifications within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assures efficient patient flow through the site: escorts patient to exam room, collects vital signs, documents reason for visit and allergy/smoking/pharmacy info, and alerts staff of changes.
• Assists practitioner with medical procedures such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, preparing procedure trays, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived tests.
• Maintains sterile, clean exam rooms and inventory; supports safety rounds and proper disposal of expired items; adheres to opening/closing procedures.
• Interacts with patients and care team to promote patient satisfaction; participates in staff meetings and communicates effectively by phone and in person.
• Performs delegated procedures common to the specialty area; performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
