Qualifications

• Associates degree in health sciences or related field.
• One year post-certification experience in Cancer Registry.
• Proficiency with cancer registry software and EMR applications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the integrity and completeness of the cancer registry database.
• Gather, abstract and manage complete, accurate information from patient records including demographics, cancer diagnosis, staging, and treatment.
• Ensure accuracy and validity of data entered into the registry software.
• Analyze data and report trends, monitor survival rates, and assist in reports for researchers and clinicians.
• Manage the registry database used for state and national statistics and research.
• Identify all reportable cancer cases using medical records, pathology reports, and oncology files.
• Extract a complete summary of the patient's cancer history from medical records including follow-up data.
• Code cancer information, such as morphology and topography, using ICD-O.
• Track health status over time to ensure high follow-up rates as required by accrediting bodies.
• Maintain data quality through edits and audits and submit data to registries.
• Educate healthcare staff on cancer information and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Keep up-to-date with registry standards and continuing education.
