Job summary

American Oncology Network (AON) is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to review and resolve insurance claims across oncology services. You will research, communicate with carriers, and collect on open balances to secure timely payments.

The role requires at least 1 year in medical billing/collections, strong CPT/ICD coding knowledge, and excellent communication skills. Onsite work at multiple locations within the network is possible, with 6 CEUs annually.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of prior work experience in the medical field with billing/collections.
• Knowledge of insurance billing, CPT codes, and ICD-9/10.
• Strong understanding of explanations of benefits (EOB).
• Experience with EMR; GE Centricity PM preferred.
• Oncology/Hematology or Radiology knowledge preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Must complete 6 CEUs annually.

Responsibilities

• Apply billing/collection knowledge to maximize reimbursement.
• Respond to inquiries about outstanding insurance balances and payments.
• Research and respond to denials and support appeals with documentation.
• Follow up on claims to ensure timely payment.
• Coordinate with office staff and clinicians as needed.
• Report recurring denial issues to team lead.
• Ensure accuracy of payer contract balances and statements.
• Attend payer meetings and training sessions as required.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant handling of patient information.
