Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners in Colorado Springs, CO.

The EIC will coordinate worksite safety, set up safety tools, and ensure compliance with all policies. The role requires travel, strong communication, and a minimum of 2 years in a railroad environment, plus required training.

Qualifications

• Proficient use of tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to coordinate train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
• Willingness to travel for extended periods, sometimes months at a time.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of railroad experience, preferably in maintenance of way.
• Must successfully complete Federal, Client, and/or Company Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety, including setting up derails, track signs, and safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
• Provide job-site coordination and oversee safety at the worksite.
• Maintain radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews to communicate safety status.
• Conduct mandatory, clear, and thorough job briefings with crew before track entry.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
