Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks an Employee in Charge (EIC) in Valparaiso, IN to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.

This role requires travel 50%–85% of the time, proficiency with tablets/smartphones, and strong verbal/written communication. A valid driver's license, a high school diploma, and 2+ years in railroad/MOW are required.

Qualifications

• Requires proficiency with tablets, smartphones, and comms tools for coordinating train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Detail-oriented with solid organizational abilities.
• Willingness to travel extensively, potentially months at a time.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 2 years' railroad industry experience, preferably in Maintenance of Way (MOW).
• Ability to complete Federal/Client/Company training.

Responsibilities

• Set up On-Track Safety equipment (derails, track signs, safety tools).
• Prepare daily field reports and document rule violations.
• Coordinate job-site activities and crew communications.
• Maintain radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews for safety status.
• Lead clear, concise job briefings with all crew before track entry.
• Enforce Railroad, State and Federal policies.
