Job summary

Valar Atomics, a bold energy startup, seeks a Production Quality Engineer to safeguard quality on the Torrance production floor for HTGR components and fuel-related manufacturing.

You will act as the technical authority for nonconformances, drive CAPA and data-driven improvements, and partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, and Operations to ensure controlled, verifiable processes at production tempo.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical engineering field.
• 3+ years of quality/manufacturing/process engineering experience.
• Ability to interpret drawings, GD&T, specs, and process control documentation.
• Experience with SPC, Cp/Cpk, and MSA/Gauge R&R.
• Strong cross-functional communication across engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
• Experience in active manufacturing environments with safety protocols.
• Experience in nuclear/aerospace/regulated environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain inspection plans, control plans, and verification methods for production processes, aligning with drawings and specifications.
• Serve as the technical disposition authority for nonconformances, making timely use-as-is, rework, repair, or scrap decisions with engineering justification.
• Lead root cause analysis and CAPA for production quality issues with structured problem solving.
• Evaluate process capability and measurement system performance (Cp/Cpk, Gauge R&R, MSA).
• Work on the production floor with operators and engineers to solve quality problems in real time.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to resolve manufacturability issues and changes.
• Support training content for Operator Verification Certification (OVC).
• Analyze quality data and trends to identify systemic issues and opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in internal audits and support external quality reviews as SME.
• Support qualification and verification as prototypes move to sustained production.
