Job summary

BGF Industries, Inc, Altavista, Virginia, seeks an energetic EHS Specialist to lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives on a manufacturing floor. You will drive safety culture, conduct audits, train employees, and ensure compliance with EPA/DEQ programs while supporting continuous improvement across operations.

The role includes coordinating EHS programs, updating Job Safety Analyses, and maintaining SDS and permit records.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in science or related discipline with experience in a Manufacturing Environment.
• Industrial truck licensing requirements must be satisfactorily completed.
• Ability to work on any shift as needed.
• Eyesight: 20/40 corrected.
• Certifications in RCRA, DOT shipping, HAZWOPER, and OSHA 30 are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain training files for wage and salary employees per ISO and Safety requirements.
• Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management and implement when necessary.
• Conduct new employee orientation.
• Instruct industrial truck training and maintain license files.
• Maintain SDS master copy and history file on SDS for the Plant.
• Coordinate and administer all written EHS programs and maintain files/plans.
• Coordinate department Job Safety Analysis updates.
• Conduct inspections and audits, ensure corrective actions are tracked.
• Oversee Environmental reporting and audits with EPA/DEQ.
• Coordinate safety inspections and meetings in each department and follow up.
