Job summary

Upstate Niagara Cooperative is seeking an Associate Wastewater Technician to support the North Country Dairy facility's WWTS, ensuring safe, compliant operations under the direction of the Wastewater Technician and EH&S Manager.

You will assist with inspections, permit tracking, and coordination with Engineering and Maintenance, while contributing to safety programs and daily huddle meetings. Requires mechanical aptitude and willingness to work varied shifts.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to develop a science/compliance background.
• Experience in a union environment and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Flexibility to train and meet with staff overnight or afternoon shifts.
• On-call rotation shared among coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Support facility compliance with environmental laws and regulations under direction.
• Assist with environmental permit compliance tracking for air, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management.
• Participate in routine site inspections and support environmental audits.
• Support environmental programs including spill prevention, waste reduction, and recycling initiatives.
• Oversee daily WWTS operations including housekeeping, sampling, and PM tracking.
• Operate wastewater treatment equipment under established procedures.
• Monitor processes and flag deviations from permit/operating requirements.
• Perform basic inspection, testing, and maintenance tasks with mechanical aptitude.
• Obtain wastewater samples and run lab analysis; maintain chain of custody.
