Job summary

Magellan Health, Inc. is seeking an On Site Victim Advocate at Fort Myer-Henderson Hall, VA to support Army Family Advocacy and Victim Advocacy Programs.

The role requires crisis intervention, case management, and liaison with military and civilian agencies, focusing on safety planning and providing resources to victims. The position is part-time with night, weekend, and some day hours, and requires Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, plus experience with domestic abuse victims.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school in social/work, psychology, marriage, family, and child counseling, counseling or behavioral science, education, community health or public health.
• Two years' experience working with victims of domestic abuse/sexual assault violence or victim advocacy services.
• Working knowledge of family violence dynamics, safety planning, risk assessments, local resources, and relevant laws.
• Ability to intervene in crisis situations with professional judgment and ethics.
• Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted motor vehicle license.
• Must be able to provide on-call 24 hours/7 days per week victim advocacy services.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention and comprehensive services including emotional support, arrangement of transportation; accompany victims to medical, legal and/or law enforcement appointments when requested.
• Advocate for expressed needs to intervening agencies and ensure they are presented appropriately.
• Assess imminent risks to health and safety and make referrals as appropriate.
• Assist victims in navigating systems to obtain services and refer to appropriate resources for continued care.
• Ensure victims receive sensitive, confidential and immediate care and treatment.
• Perform initial screening, risk and lethality assessment and safety planning with victims.
• Liaise with the FAPM to ensure comprehensive victim services are provided through a coordinated community response.
