Harford County Public Schools is seeking a School Bus Attendant for on-site work in Bel Air, MD. The role supports students with special needs on transportation routes and works with drivers, teachers and families to meet individual requirements.

The starting hourly rate is $16.09. Applicants must meet Maryland regulations and be able to lift 40 pounds; the position is full-time with on-site responsibilities and a focus on safe, accessible transportation.

Qualifications

• Must satisfy all requirements listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 13A.06.07.
• Able to communicate effectively with fellow employees, students and the public.
• Able to lift 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists students in crossing the roadway safely.
• Assists students while loading and unloading.
• Proficient in the use of and able to clearly demonstrate the proper use of a wheelchair lift, wheelchair tie downs (side, forward (L/over center buckle), retractor) and orthopedic devices.
• Monitors the behavior of students on the bus and takes appropriate measures to ensure the safety and integrity of the ride.
• Works with the school bus driver, teachers and parents to meet the specialized needs of the students.
• Assists in communication and correspondence between the home and school.
• Assists in maintaining a clean and sanitary school bus.
• Performs other work-related duties pertaining to the transportation of students with special needs as outlined in the HCPS School Bus Driver/Attendant Handbook and administrative procedures.
