Baltimore County Public Schools is seeking a Temporary Bus Attendant to ensure the safety and comfort of special education students on school buses. The role involves assisting with boarding, monitoring behavior, and fulfilling emergency protocols.
The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma, preferably with experience working with special education students. This position offers various hourly pay rates depending on employment type, with a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.
Temporary, training position. Eligible for Temporary (Substitute/part‑time) or Regular (Full‑time) Bus Attendant after training. Attend to the safety, care, and comfort of special education students and other students on school buses. Assist boarding and disembarking. Lift and carry students as required. Monitor behavior on buses. Travel to and between Office of Transportation worksites throughout Baltimore County. Staff routes of regularly assigned bus attendants as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Functions: Assist bus driver in receiving information needed to complete accident reports. Perform other duties of similar scope and complexity.
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Physical labor assisting students on and off buses, lifting students, bending, stooping, and entering and exiting buses through emergency doors. Work performed in and around buses and outdoors.
Must successfully complete the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training program within an assigned period of time. Failure to complete training may result in termination. Successful completion of the Bus Attendant minimum standards review is required prior to appointment. Annual successful completion of Baltimore County Public Schools in‑service instruction for school vehicle attendants is required to maintain employment.
Grade: Grade 1 on the AFSCME pay scale.
Salary: Trainee Bus Attendant: $15.00/hr flat rate. Substitute Bus Attendant: hourly rates range from $15.00 to $17.35. Part‑time and Full‑time Bus Attendant: hourly rates range from $15.30 to $20.95.
Other Compensation: Eligible for shift differential and longevity as per the AFSME Master Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding.
