Job summary

Schuff Steel is seeking a Field Safety Manager to oversee OSHA compliance across all local, state, and federal regulations on our field sites. You will be a hands-on member of the safety team, ensuring the wellbeing of field crews and others on job sites.

The role emphasizes training, on-site hazard control, audits, and incident investigations, with a focus on zero accidents and adherence to project policies. You will coordinate with clients and supervisors and may travel to projects as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of related experience as a safety professional in commercial/industrial construction.
• Hands-on steel erection experience preferred; experience with trades can substitute.
• Thorough understanding of OSHA standards for steel construction, fall-protection, cranes, rigging, heavy equipment.
• Experience training large groups on PPE, HAZCOM, Confined-Space, and Fall-Protection procedures.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ADOSH, Cal OSHA, and EPA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct safety orientation for all new hires prior to on-site work.
• Conduct safety audits, document audits, and create corrective actions; maintain OSHA compliance.
• Train employees on site-specific hazards, fall protection, aerial lifts, and toolbox talks.
• Maintain a current SDS file and ensure OSHA compliance.
• Maintain and submit safety documentation such as PTPs and inspection forms.
• Provide technical assistance on safety-related matters and supervise safety issues.
• Conduct accident and near-miss investigations and generate reports for leadership.
• Prepare, review, and update AHAs to meet contract standards.
• Attend daily pre-task meetings and coordinate with clients and supervisors.
