Job summary

Active Surfaces in Woburn, MA seeks a Project Engineer to lead our upcoming factory build. You will own site selection, design basis, permitting, supplier coordination, and the overall construction schedule, reporting to the Founder & CEO.

You will collaborate with the CTO and manufacturing team to translate process needs into a realizable facility. This role is on site, fast-paced, and requires rigorous organization and ownership.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years delivering capital projects in industrial construction, project development, owner's engineering, or infra.
• Experience with siting, design development, permitting, construction, equipment install or commissioning.
• Formal engineering background or equivalent hands‑on depth.
• Ability to build and defend a CPM schedule and manage capex against budget.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Run site search: build screening models, visit candidate sites, gather data, assemble recommendations for the CEO and board.
• Lead EPC selection: prepare bid packages, qualify bidders, level bids, coordinate interviews and site walks, manage contract delivery.
• Translate manufacturing needs into a facility design basis, including cleanroom, utilities, layout and hookups.
• Oversee owner’s engineers and designers, review drawings, track RFIs, ensure scope alignment.
• Develop and maintain integrated project schedule and capital budget; manage contingencies and changes.
• Manage permitting, environmental, and regulatory approvals with agencies.
• Prepare data packages for incentives strategy to support the CEO's financing efforts.
• Coordinate tool procurement, FAT, delivery, installation, and commissioning.
• Build documents and procedures for vendor qualification, document control, and reporting cadence.
• Be on site for OAC meetings, verify work against specifications.
