The ideal candidate will have formal phlebotomy training or medical assistant schooling, with prior phlebotomy experience and a valid PA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a medical assistant program or phlebotomy training with 6 months to 1 year of specimen collection experience
• Prior phlebotomy training and specimen collection experience
• BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire; valid Pennsylvania driver's license

Responsibilities

• Verbal reporting of critical test results and requesting information for testing
• Collecting blood specimens from inpatients, outpatients, nursing home and home-bound patients
• Verifying patient preparation for tests and instructing on collection and handling of non-blood specimens
• Sorting and transporting specimens, requests, mail and results to appropriate locations
• Performing legal blood draws, urine drug collections, and breath alcohol testing
• Administering glucose tests per physician order
• Using computer and clerical skills to perform tasks
• Applying clinical terminology and ICD-10 coding in the lab
• Demonstrating excellent interpersonal communication with patients and visitors
