Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of a certified Phlebotomy program or equivalent.
• Preference may be given to a candidate with experience in a hospital laboratory as a phlebotomist.

Responsibilities

• Performs all work promptly and accurately.
• Always collects blood from patients using venipuncture, arterial puncture, capillary puncture, or special techniques as required.
• Verifies patient identification prior to specimen collection to assure accurate testing.
• Performs bedside glucose testing at specific times and adheres to quality control standards before releasing results.
• Prepares specimens for processing with accurate identification and proper labeling.
• Instructs and assists patients with proper specimen collection methods.
• Maintains organized and clean work areas; communicates effectively with staff.
• Trains and orients personnel for specimen collection and ensures compliance with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, and PA Health Dept standards.
