• Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries promptly.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick following proper patient identification procedures.
• Instruct patients on collection procedures when needed; may collect samples other than blood.
• Transport specimens to appropriate lab sections per safety procedures; adhere to policies and safety standards.
• Enter demographic data and test orders into information systems; handle basic clerical tasks.
• Train and orient new employees, students and residents as assigned.
• Inform staff and pathologists of unusual or problematic incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following strict guidelines.
