Job summary

Bingham Healthcare is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Coder to review physician documentation and assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes for physician offices. You will help ensure proper reimbursement and compliance while supporting providers in clarifying documentation.

The role emphasizes independent work within a collaborative HIM team, staying current with coding guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) preferred or 1–2 years of relevant experience.
• RHIA/RHIT or CCS/CPC certification is preferred.
• Detail-oriented with knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems.
• Ability to work independently and protect patient confidentiality.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with providers.

Responsibilities

• Review medical documentation to identify diagnoses, surgeries and procedures.
• Assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes using applicable coding systems.
• Apply appropriate coding modifiers and ensure documentation supports code selection.
• Clarify unclear or non-specific documentation with providers.
• Support compliance with coding and insurance requirements and continuous education.
