Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an On-Site Mechanical Engineer for a project near Baton Rouge, LA. You will act as the on-site representative for HVAC, cooling, piping, plumbing, and other mechanical systems, coordinating between construction and design teams to ensure quality and timely delivery.

The successful candidate has a Mechanical Engineering bachelor's, 10+ years in design/construction/commissioning (or 5+ years in hyperscale data centers), and solid knowledge of industry codes and BIM coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations experience; or 5+ years in hyperscale data center environments.
• Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, piping systems, and mission-critical environments.
• Strong understanding of specifications, codes, and industry standards.
• Ability to evaluate field conditions and provide practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for HVAC, cooling, piping, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
• Perform daily site observations and assess installation progress and workmanship.
• Coordinate mechanical design clarifications and field solutions with project stakeholders.
• Facilitate responses to RFIs, submittals, equipment substitutions, and field conflicts.
• Support reviews of equipment layouts, utility routing, and coordination between trades.
• Participate in constructability reviews, BIM coordination activities, and mockup evaluations.
• Identify and document mechanical installation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Support factory testing, bench testing, startup activities, and commissioning preparation.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to resolve installation issues.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance on mechanical systems.
• Issue weekly reports summarizing observations, risks, corrective actions, and schedule impacts.
• Proactively identify design, quality, and schedule risks and support resolution strategies.
