Job summary

Vernis & Bowling in Jackson, Mississippi seeks an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support our civil defense team. The role emphasizes heavy discovery, document review, and thorough trial preparation, with close coordination to attorneys and experts.

You will draft and organize pleadings and discovery materials, manage the discovery lifecycle, and synthesize medical records and transcripts to aid case strategy. On-site work in our Jackson office is required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of paralegal experience in General Liability or civil defense.
• Strong knowledge of the Mississippi Rules of Civil Procedure and local filing protocols.
• Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and e-discovery tools.
• Ability to organize high-volume litigation data with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Draft, prepare, and review pleadings, motions for summary judgment, appellate briefs, and complex discovery materials.
• Manage the complete discovery lifecycle, including drafting interrogatories, organizing exhibits, and preparing responses to subpoenas.
• Synthesize and summarize voluminous medical records, deposition transcripts, and court files for attorney review.
• Conduct targeted legal research utilizing statutes, judicial decisions, and public records to support motion practice and trial strategy.
• Serve as the primary liaison coordinating case logistics and strategy with experts, fact witnesses, clients, and opposing counsel.
• Drive trial preparation by assembling trial notebooks, managing digital exhibits, and coordinating trial data.
