Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking an on-the-job assistant to help students perform assigned work tasks at placement sites and to coach students for success in their positions. The role requires hands-on knowledge of job tasks and close collaboration with employers and school staff.

The position emphasizes safety, punctuality, and consistent communication with supervisors to ensure long-term employment outcomes for students.

Qualifications

• Standard high school diploma or GED.
• Three (3) years of progressively more responsible work experience where the individual has had to learn a variety of job procedures.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-the-job assistance to ensure student jobs are completed to employer satisfaction and coach the student as needed.
• Develop knowledge of jobs to be placed by performing all required tasks.
• Maintain ongoing contact with the student’s on-the-job supervisor to ensure successful performance.
• Collect and record performance data for each student under guidance of the ojt teacher and principal.
• Provide input to the ojt teacher regarding student performance.
• Monitor student attendance and punctuality.
• Implement behavior management procedures as prescribed by relevant staff.
• Assist student in learning transportation strategies to the work site.
• Work the same schedule as the student (holidays, weekends, nights) as needed.
• Communicate with employers, colleagues, parents, teachers, and agency personnel to facilitate long-term employment.
• Follow all equal employment and nondiscrimination policies.
• Participate in offered training programs to improve skills and proficiency.
• Review current developments related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
• Follow federal/state laws and school board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or district administrator.
