Job summary

Akicita Federal is seeking an AC Mechanic Operator to support facility maintenance for the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System in Montgomery, AL. You will keep critical HVAC and mechanical systems running across VA campus facilities, with a Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM schedule.

The role requires hands-on HVAC experience, tool proficiency, and reliable transportation to Montgomery (and Tuskegee) campuses.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience as an AC Mechanic Operator or HVAC/mechanical systems technician.
Proficiency with hand tools and power tools common to HVAC/mechanical trades.
Ability to work a 40-hour week (Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM) with occasional overtime.
Reliable transportation to report to Montgomery, AL campus (and Tuskegee, AL campus as needed).
Ability to pass VA facility background check prior to starting.

Responsibilities

Operate, inspect, and maintain air conditioning and HVAC systems across VA facilities.
Diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform repairs to restore function.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance on mechanical components and fittings.
Respond to work orders and emergency maintenance requests promptly.
Utilize standard hand and power tools for repairs and maintenance.
Rotate between Montgomery and Tuskegee campuses as needed.
Document completed work and communicate status updates to campus supervisors.
