Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking an Environmental Compliance Lead for an active solar construction project near Columbus, Montana. The role requires on-site presence, with an 8-hour day, 6 days a week schedule during the active season, and potential for continued employment after December 15.

The position focuses on ensuring adherence to environmental permits and regulatory requirements throughout construction, coordinating with project teams, and documenting compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Soils, or a related field preferred, but not required.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in environmental compliance.
  • Experience conducting and auditing NPDES stormwater inspections and SPCC audits.
  • Proficiency using GPS units and field data collection tools.
  • Strong communication skills with construction teams, clients, and agency staff.
  • Ability to work independently in remote field environments.
  • Willingness to adhere to health and safety requirements in rural work environments.
  • Ability to work in harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain.
  • Flexible scheduling due to changing field conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Verify compliance with regulatory permits, approvals, and environmental requirements.
  • Serve as on-site environmental compliance representative and primary contact.
  • Conduct on-site monitoring and inspections to document compliance and corrective actions.
  • Audit contractor inspections and environmental records.
  • Prepare and maintain inspection reports and field documentation.
  • Provide regular communication and reporting to client staff.
  • Assist with environmental incident response and follow-up activities.
  • Communicate with construction contractors, client staff, and project teams.
  • Complete field data collection forms, reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Use GPS units and field equipment to collect site data.
  • Maintain health and safety compliance in remote construction environments.
  • Work independently in the field while coordinating with office staff.
  • Adhere to internal procedures, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and knowledge in discipline.
  • Report health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
