Job summary

Actalent is hiring a Software Engineer to support DoD Navy programs in Columbia, MD. The role focuses on C++ and Python development on Linux, with legacy code modernization and new development in an agile setting. On-site, travel to customer sites is required, and contributions have high visibility.

The position requires 1–6 years of experience, a DoD security clearance, US citizenship, and a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Collaboration in a small team and independent work are expected.

Qualifications

• 1–6 years of software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in object‑oriented C++ development.
• Experience developing software in a Linux environment.
• Hands‑on programming experience with Python.
• Ability to prepare clear and thorough software engineering design documentation.
• Experience with legacy codebases and debugging/maintenance.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites for investigation and integration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and test software for the AEGIS Display Subsystem in an agile environment.
• Debug and update legacy Navy codebases for delivery to the Navy.
• Develop C++ and Python code in Linux and follow modern software engineering practices.
• Prepare software design documentation describing architecture and decisions.
• Support CI, testing, and deployment activities.
• Present technical content to customers and peers; participate in reviews.
• Travel to customer sites as needed to investigate issues and apply fixes.
