Job summary

Atlas Copco Tools & Assembly Systems LLC in Grayling, MI seeks a Controls Engineer to design, program, and implement control systems for automated feeding equipment. You will collaborate with mechanical and software teams to deliver high-performance automation solutions that meet exacting standards.

The role requires PLC programming and HMI development for Allen Bradley and Siemens, plus CAD work in AutoCAD and EPLAN. Expect travel 10–20% and up to 50 hours weekly as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in automation or feeding systems.
• Proficiency in PLC programming and HMI development for Allen Bradley and Siemens.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation components (sensors, motors, drives, etc.).
• Commitment to safety standards (OSHA) and proper equipment use.
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and cross-functional teamwork.
• Travel may be required (10-20%).
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform related tasks.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control systems for automated feeding equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and actuators
• Program and debug PLCs and HMIs for custom automation solutions, specifically Allen Bradley and Siemens
• Create electrical schematics and panel layouts using CAD software, specifically AutoCAD and EPLAN
• Collaborate with mechanical and software teams to integrate controls with mechanical systems
• Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning in-house and at customer sites
• Develop and maintain documentation including wiring diagrams, control logic, and user manuals
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations (NFPA 79, UL508A)
• Provide technical support and training to customers and internal teams
• Schedule: Monday through Friday with some Saturdays; up to 50 hours per week
