Job summary

AECOM is seeking Construction Interns to be based in Chicago, Illinois. This internship starts in May 2027 and offers exposure to field inspections, project coordination, and QA/QC activities under experienced staff. You will assist inspectors, engineers, and managers, while learning construction methods, safety practices, and regulatory requirements.

Eligible candidates are pursuing a Civil Engineering or related degree with at least three years completed and hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field with at least three years of study.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites.
• Must pass Motor Vehicle Records review.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist construction inspectors, engineers, and project managers with daily activities.
• Observe construction operations to learn methods, materials, equipment and safety practices.
• Support field inspections to verify work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications and contract requirements.
• Maintain daily reports, field notes, photographs, and project documentation.
• Assist with quantity measurements and progress tracking for construction activities.
• Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting notes and action item summaries.
• Monitor project schedules and provide updates to project team members.
• Help review material delivery tickets, inspection records, and testing reports.
• Assist with construction staking verification, site observations, and documentation of field conditions.
• Support quality assurance and quality control activities under supervision of experienced staff.
• Learn and apply industry standards, construction specifications, and regulatory requirements.
