Job summary

Fehr Graham is seeking a results-driven Resident Engineer to lead on-site construction oversight for transportation and municipal projects across Wisconsin and northern Illinois. You will serve as the primary liaison between contractors, clients, and internal teams, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.

The role requires a Civil Engineering/Construction Management background, 5+ years in the field, and strong knowledge of field tools like AASHTOWare, Excel, and CAD systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• 5+ years of experience in construction engineering, including roadway or municipal infrastructure projects.
• Experience with WisDOT and/or IDOT projects, specifications, and documentation procedures is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in construction inspection, documentation, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory standards.
• Manage and oversee day-to-day field operations for roadways, bridges, utility installations, and other civil infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with contractors, subconsultants, municipal clients, and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and maintain project progress.
• Perform and document field inspections, materials testing, and quality control procedures.
• Monitor construction schedules and budgets; proactively identify and address potential delays or overruns.
• Maintain accurate project records, field notes, daily reports, and change documentation.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and project-specific requirements.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to field staff and engineering interns.
• Support project managers with closeout documentation, punch lists, and final inspections.
