Job summary

Fehr Graham is seeking a Resident Engineer to oversee day-to-day field operations on roadway and municipal infrastructure projects in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. You will serve as the on-site liaison among contractors, clients, and internal teams, ensuring compliance with contract and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in construction engineering, preferably with WisDOT/IDOT exposure, and a Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree. EIT preferred; PE a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• EIT license preferred; PE license a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in construction engineering (roadway/municipal).
• Experience with WisDOT and/or IDOT project documentation procedures.
• Proficiency in inspection, documentation, and contract administration.
• Familiarity with field tools and software such as AASHTOWare Project, Microsoft Excel, CAD-based systems.
• Strong communication and ability to work independently with cross-functional teams.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel in the region.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents, specifications, and regulatory standards.
• Manage and oversee day-to-day field operations for roadways, bridges, utility installations, and other civil infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with contractors, subconsultants, municipal clients, and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and maintain project progress.
• Perform and document field inspections, materials testing, and quality control procedures.
• Monitor construction schedules and budgets; proactively identify and address potential delays or overruns.
• Maintain accurate project records, field notes, daily reports, and change documentation.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and project-specific requirements.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to field staff and engineering interns.
• Support project managers with closeout documentation, punch lists, and final inspections.
