Pump.co in San Francisco is hiring a Backend Engineer to join a fast-paced, early-stage team. You will design, build, and scale backend services powering our cloud-cost optimization platform and work across the stack with engineers, designers, and founders.

The role emphasizes growth within a strong engineering culture, direct impact on real customers, and collaboration across functions. This is a non-remote, in-office position with competitive compensation and equity.

Qualifications

• 3–15 years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Ability to work 5 days a week in office.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with FastAPI or similar frameworks.
• Experience with SQL databases — we use PostgreSQL.
• Comfort working in a cloud environment (AWS preferred).
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Thrives in fast-moving, early-stage startup environments.
• Clear communication and collaborative instincts.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services that power the Pump platform.
• Work with the team to define and scope new product features.
• Contribute to a strong engineering culture by participating in code reviews and continuous improvement.
• Help extend our internal tools, dev workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure system reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate across functions to solve real customer problems with intuitive engineering solutions.
