Job summary

Primoris Renewable Energy, a premier EPC provider for solar and energy storage, seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support the PM and site leadership in safe, high-quality, and efficient project execution. You will handle administration, scheduling, procurement, subcontract management, and client communication.

This role is 100% on-site at project locations nationwide, with travel and temporary relocation required.

Qualifications

  • 4-7+ years of construction experience, utility-scale solar, BESS, HV, or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with self-performing construction environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with PM software (P6, Procore, Bluebeam, Vista/CMiC, MS Office).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on-site 100% (temporary relocation to project community required).

Responsibilities

  • Lead LNTP and pre-mobilization setup, manage docs, permits, contracts, scopes, and early procurement.
  • Manage subcontracting and procurement workflows, prep requisitions, review POs and BOMs, coordinate first-article builds.
  • Support quality/compliance efforts including IRA reporting, domestic content verification, and labor requirements.
  • Prepare agendas, gather field data, compile progress updates, and support client presentations and project reporting.
  • Coordinate three-week look-ahead schedules and weekly cost reviews with field teams and subs.
  • Oversee Project Engineer in drawings reviews, submittals, transmittals, and document control.

Job Overview

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager (PM) and site leadership team in the safe, high-quality, and efficient execution of utility-scale solar, BESS, and HV construction projects. The APM assists with project administration, scheduling, forecasting, procurement, subcontract management, financial controls, document management, and client communication. This role is designed to help develop the next generation of Projects and is primarily responsible for Site Project Manager administrative tasks.

This position has the following reporting structure: Reports to Project Manager. Has direct reporting structure of the on-site Project Engineer, Field Engineers, Site Admin, Site Safety Manager, Site Quality Manager. Coordinates with the Construction Manager on evaluation of schedule, project costs, equipment management and staffing.

This role is 100% on-site at any of our project locations nationwide. Please do not apply unless you are willing to travel 100% and temporarily relocate to the project location you are assigned to.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Mobilization/LNTP Phase Lead – LNTP and pre-mobilization setup by managing documentation, permits, contracts, scopes, and early procurement while supporting budget development and overall execution planning. Support the Project Manager through client coordination, meeting preparation, scope and drawing review, and ensuring project requirements, estimates, and planning documents are accurate and aligned.
  • Construction – Manage subcontracting and procurement workflows by preparing requisitions, supporting PO creation, validating quantities against BOMs, and ensuring alignment with scopes, budgets, and schedule requirements. Draft and review subcontract agreements, lead pre-task planning meetings, and coordinate first-article build approvals to ensure clarity, safety, quality, and proper construction sequencing.
  • Support quality and compliance efforts by maintaining required documentation and assisting with Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) reporting, domestic content verification, and labor-related requirements.
  • Meetings/Reports – Prepare agendas, gather field data, compile progress updates, and support client-facing presentations and project reporting across schedule, cost, quality, and safety metrics. Coordinate three-week look-ahead schedules, participate in weekly cost reviews, and work with Construction and Trade Superintendents to align labor, materials, subcontractors, and critical path activities. Support subcontractor management by tracking performance, resolving field issues, and reviewing invoices for accuracy, percent-complete validation, and proper documentation.
  • Engineering – Oversee Project Engineer in participation of detailed page-turn reviews of engineering drawings to verify consistency, identify constructability issues, and coordinate with Engineering and field teams on required clarifications. Ensure Project Engineer is processing, tracking, and logging all submittals and transmittals between engineering, vendors, subcontractors, and clients, ensuring timely review cycles and up-to-date document control.
  • Financial/Project Controls – Support project financial controls by forecasting cost flows, preparing WIP reports, updating percent-complete data, and identifying variances for leadership review. Assist with change management and contractual communication by gathering backup for change orders, documenting impacts, and drafting formal project notices. Contribute to overall schedule management by gathering field progress data, identifying risks, and helping update the project schedule with the PM, CM, and scheduler.
  • Approvals – Perform variable cost calculations by analyzing labor hours, equipment usage, and production rates to support billing, forecasting, and cost control efforts. Review and validate invoices for variable-cost work items, ensuring alignment with field progress, contract terms, and supporting documentation before approval.
Qualifications
  • 4-7+ years of construction experience; utility-scale solar, BESS, HV, industrial, commercial construction or heavy civil experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required with equivalent experience).
  • Experience with self-performing construction environments strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with project management and construction software (P6, Procore, Bluebeam, Vista/CMiC, MS Office, etc.).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on-site 100% (temporary relocation to project community required).
Physical Requirements
  • Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
  • Must pass a physical exam if required.
  • Able to: climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations); lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (use assistance for heavier loads); stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel); must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required.

Pay Equity Statement

$120,000 - $160,000

This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule.
