This key role helps us maintain a safe and welcoming environment. Under the supervision of the OD Coordinator, the OD Operations Manager provides operational oversight and serves as a reliable, collaborative, and professional presence in the community to support members and staff on duty, particularly outside of prime business hours. This position is primarily responsible for providing staff and members with effective and timely guidance, problem resolution, direction, and interventions to ensure we deliver excellent customer‑centric services aligned with JCC values and conduct and service level expectations.

While being proudly Jewish, we strive to provide an open and welcoming setting for all, irrespective of personal practices, beliefs, or background. We are guided by JCC Greater Boston’s core values — Belonging, Joyfulness, Collaboration, and Transformation — which resonate with many who do not identify as Jewish.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide collaborative, communicative, and decisive oversight of the building
  • Exhibit a vigilant and active oversight presence and visibility
  • Perform ongoing building rounds during shift (at least once every 30 minutes)
  • Respond to calls and requests in a timely manner
  • Provide effective and timely resolution to complex situations, questions, concerns, and conflicts in a fast‑paced environment; elevate issues to security or other leadership/management as needed
  • Provide support, communication, and decision making that prioritizes community safety and adheres to conduct standards
  • As the first point of contact, promptly respond to any medical emergency in the building
  • Receive, address, document, and share communications from shifts; ensure clear, detailed incident and process documentation and timely incident/accident reports
  • Address suspicious or unsafe behaviors or activity; contact JCC security as needed
  • Foster a welcoming, friendly, and respectful environment; model professional conduct
  • Present professionally, greet members by name (when known), listen to concerns, and work toward resolution or interim remedies to diffuse situations
  • Enforce all procedures and policies of the JCC, including Health & Fitness department policies and On‑Duty Manager procedures
  • Report accidents, incidents, and concerns to the OD Coordinator with appropriate documentation and follow‑up
Standard Staff Expectations
  • Actively create an inclusive and welcoming environment where each individual is valued and part of the community
  • Participate as an essential member of the Health & Wellness team and serve the entire community
  • Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of Belonging, Joyfulness, Collaboration, and Transformation
  • Participate in all assigned trainings and meetings
  • Record hours worked in Paylocity as scheduled during onboarding
  • Follow JCC policies and practices; be punctual and provide shift coverage notices as required
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a regular, non‑exempt, limited part‑time position of 4–18 hours per week. It offers a supportive, vibrant in‑person work environment and a starting pay rate of $20.00 per hour. The pay rate will be determined by qualifications, experience, and JCC's internal equity.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of successful experience overseeing a function or people. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion.

  • Ability to tactfully handle challenging conversations; trained in de‑escalation or willing to be trained
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask, adapt to evolving needs, and manage situations diplomatically
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills
  • Good judgment and decision‑making abilities
  • Commitment to building strong relationships with a diverse member base
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekend hours
