Job summary

Milton Hershey School (MHS) in Hershey, PA, seeks married couples to serve as Full-time Flex Houseparents. The role places you in on-campus student homes, guiding a group of 8–13 students and shaping a structured, family-like environment that supports academic, emotional, and social growth.

The position begins with nine consecutive days on duty followed by three days off, with potential transition to a placed houseparent living with the same group of students.

Qualifications

• Experience working or volunteering with youth.
• Two-person role for couples married at least two years.
• Both spouses must be age 27 or older.
• No more than three dependent children may reside in the student home.
• Commitment to a smoke-free and weapon-free campus; no alcohol on duty.
• Pet limitations: fish and one dog of approved breeds allowed.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to become certified to drive student home vans.
• Comfort leading daily devotions and Judeo-Christian Sunday Chapel services (proselytizing prohibited).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Demonstrated integrity and professionalism; staff are role models for students.
• Unique, challenging, and rewarding career and life choice requiring commitment to student success from both spouses.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily supervision and mentorship to students.
• Manage household routines and student schedules.
• Administer medications and monitor student wellness.
• Transport students to activities and participate in developmental/recreational activities.
• Lead daily devotions and attend Sunday Chapel with students.
• Oversee budgeting and household reporting.
