Job summary

The Lab Animal Technician at Syracuse University provides diligent animal care, feeds and waters animals, changes and cleans cages, and maintains AAALAC‑accredited facility operations. The role supports animal users and staff while documenting abnormalities and ensuring environmental safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal facility, husbandry, and colony maintenance is preferred with related degree or experience.
  • AALAS certification is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide diligent animal care, including feeding, watering, and cage cleaning.
  • Record and report animal abnormalities and environmental issues.
  • Monitor life support systems and perform basic quality control in the vivarium.
  • Support facility users and staff, assist with supply orders as needed.
