Job summary

Carson City Juvenile Services is seeking a part-time, non-exempt staff member to monitor the safety and security of detained youth in a residential facility and work sites. The role includes supervising activities, crisis intervention, and maintaining daily logs.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of experience with at-risk youth. Certification in CPR/First Aid and a valid driver's license are required or obtainable within two months of hire.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED; AND one year of experience working with at-risk youth in a detention setting or similar setting.
• Special requirements include CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within two months; valid driver’s license.
• Defensive tactics training or ability to obtain within six months of hire; pass comprehensive background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure environment for detained youth by observation, guidance, monitoring, and accountability.
• Defuse potentially assaultive behavior and physically restrain youth when necessary.
• Screen and evaluate youth for abuse, behavioral problems, and safety risks; monitor and operate electronic equipment.
• Organize, supervise and participate in activities including work program activities; assist youth with daily living skills.
• Transport youth for medical appointments or emergencies; maintain daily logs and complete required paperwork.
