Job summary

Republic Services, Inc. is seeking a maritime deckhand to inspect vessels and equipment prior to voyages, and to operate the vessel when safe.

You will use navigational data, weather forecasts and current predictions to support safe operations and direct the crew as required. The role requires at least 1 year of maritime experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain credentials such as TWIC or MMC.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year related experience in the maritime industry.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets the Business Driving standards.
  • Knowledge of equipment, policies and strategies to provide effective protection for themselves and others.
  • Knowledge of operation, navigation, electrical and mechanical systems of a vessel and required maintenance.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines with safety emphasis.
  • Possession or willingness to obtain TWIC and MMC certifications; may require state boating credentials and passport.
  • CPR/First Aid, Marine Crane Operator Certification and Cold-Water Survival Certificates.

Responsibilities

  • Deploys, tows, and anchors containment boom and other spill response equipment as necessary.
  • Ensures job-related equipment is in good working order and ready for deployment or drills.
  • Documents and maintains current vessel logs and inspections.
  • Directs deckhands and passengers to ensure safety during hazards.
  • Provides continuous training in safety, seamanship and navigation techniques.
  • Conduct onboard safety drills.
  • Completes paperwork following procedures and regulations (logs, charts, EPA Discharge logs, placards).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
